Parent Advisory Council (PAC)

Parent Advisory Council (PAC)

 About KSA PAC:
The Parent Advisory Council for Kamloops School of the Arts is an autonomous body, abides by its Constitution and Bylaws and the School Act under the government of BC. Functions entirely through volunteers. All parents & guardians of the K-12 students at KSA are automatically members of the KSA PAC. Some grandparents, aunts and uncles, foster parents, and others assist PAC events. PAC Executive Committee (8-10 elected members) organize meetings and events, and report to the rest of the members at meetings (at least 5 in a school year) and an AGM in the spring of every year.
 Functions:
The PAC is involved in many different aspects of the school community including:
  • creating and enhancing opportunities for community/spirit within KSA
  • helping staff and administration support KSA students
  • helping families support their students
  • advocating for the school and it's students
  • connecting parents with school administration
  • connecting parents to other parents
  • connecting parents to the school board
  • allocating BC Gaming funds
  • applying for funding grants
  • fundraising
  • connecting KSA to its neighbourhood and the Kamloops area.
 Communication:
These efforts are especially significant as we are a non-catchment school (meaning that our students come from all parts of town, not just the surrounding area.) Having an online community keeps parents in touch with each other and facilitates an open dialogue for questions, concerns, and acknowledgements (in a friendly, positive space).

The KSA PAC volunteers maintain a PAC Facebook page, www.facebook.com/groups/ksapac, which updates our school community about KSA happenings, important dates, and fundraisers. It is moderated by the school admin and the KSA PAC Exec, and follows the social media guidelines set out by the School District.

We also send home handouts to elementary students, and have additions to the school’s newsletters (and now website). All PAC handouts is available at the office for secondary and family to pick up.

And, of course, your voice is best heard if you make it to PAC meeting!
