Parent and guardian resources: information about SFU and the application process you can share with the parents and guardians of your students

We have developed resources specifically for parents and guardians to help their student move forward on their application to SFU. We appreciate the process can sometimes seem overwhelming, so these tips outline what to expect at each step along the way – from applying to SFU through to starting the first term here.

SFU Surrey Faculty Showcase event coming soon – November 18

We’re inviting students and their families to our in-person Faculty Showcase at SFU Surrey. This is a great opportunity for students to engage with faculty representatives and current students and gain valuable insight in making informed decisions about SFU and their path to university.

During this informative and interactive event, students will get to:

 Meet representatives from Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Beedie School of Business, Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology, and Faculty of Science

• Ask questions about specific program requirements and the admissions process to help with their application
• Watch presentations from each faculty in classrooms and theatres, and get a feel for university lectures
• Interact with current SFU students from various programs
• Go on a comprehensive campus tour to navigate SFU Surrey and get a taste of the SFU student experience
• Have a chance to win door prizes on the day of the event

• The Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarship (USES) deadline is December 15, 2023

• The Uggla Family Scholarship deadline is January 22, 2024
  • The only one of its kind in Canada, SFU's Uggla Family Scholarship is awarded to a select number of domestic Canadian students who demonstrate a high level of academic excellence. UFS provides scholars through the entirety of their academic program with tuition fees, textbooks and materials, on-campus housing and meal plans, mentorship programs, and more.

 SFU campus tours and events – there are a lot to choose from!

Connecting with us on campus for tours and events is the best way for students to see firsthand if SFU is the right fit for their academic goals and interests. They can meet with current undergraduate students and other SFU representatives, receive guidance on applications and admission, and gain invaluable insight into university life.

Campus tours

• Students are welcome to sign up on their own and we strongly encourage parents and guardians to join in on campus tours.
• We offer regularly scheduled tours at SFU Burnaby and Surrey campuses year-round to accommodate busy schedules.
• Please let your students and their parents/guardians know they can easily schedule a campus tour online through our website.

 In-person and virtual events

• Throughout the busy fall and winter months, we regularly host events covering different topics that address both domestic and international student needs.
• These events include how-to webinars taking students through the application process in detail, drop-in advising sessions for students to bring their questions, and detailed information sessions.
• We hope you will share information about these events with your students and their parents/guardians.
